TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT RECONCILIATION

For individuals looking to support change, the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund (ITDF) provides a way to take action on reconciliation. Administered by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), the ITDF allows individuals to have a positive impact on the lives of Indigenous Peoples in Canada by supporting the growth of the Indigenous tourism industry, whether through an ITDF partner business or direct contributions.

The Indigenous tourism industry in Canada currently employs more than 39,000 people, and ITAC’s goal is to grow that to 60,000 by 2030.

57% of employees in the industry are Indigenous, higher than any other sector, and one in three business owners is a women.

Through support for Indigenous tourism, direct economic benefits are delivered to Indigenous individuals, families and communities—all across the country.

Experience Indigenous Tourism

One of the best ways to support reconciliation is to participate in an Indigenous tourism experience. The DestinationIndigenous.ca website features Indigenous-owned tourism operators from across Canada. They offer a variety of experiences, from wildlife viewing, to culinary, to storytelling and more.

Contribute Through an ITDF Partner

A growing list of businesses have partnered with ITAC and committed to making contributions to the ITDF. This means that every time you make a purchase at a participating ITDF partner, you are supporting contributions to the growth of Indigenous tourism in Canada.

Make a Direct Personal Contribution

As an individual looking to embrace reconciliation, you can take action by making a personal contribution to the ITDF. Through a secure, online platform, you can make a one-time or recurring contribution that will directly impact Indigenous individuals, families and communities.

  • Transparent Reporting

A reporting mechanism tracks and accounts for all contributions to the Indigenous Tourism Development Fund. Reports are generated twice per year and are available publicly, providing peace of mind that all contributions are supporting the growth of Indigenous tourism.

  • Real World Impacts

Contributions are used to fund infrastructure, development and marketing priorities. Distributed across the country, contributions have an immediate positive impact in Indigenous communities through employment, destination development and business support and promotion activities.

We have described for you a mountain. We have shown you the path to the top. We call upon you to do the climbing.
